We've been here a month!

"Time flies. It's up to you to be the navigator."

Robert Orben

It is hard to believe that we have been here slightly over a month.  The time is really flying by.  The weather is amazing. There's a lot to do.  We are living right downtown so the more pedestrian lifestyle has more than doubled my daily step count.  It has been great to see  Dad again more regular and it has been great to see Kelly's  band and have family dinners  (no pictures of thoses) .   We are taking the train upto Vancouver BC tomorrow for three days.  We can also take a train to Seattle, which we will probably do the few days before I leave for SPEP and my high school reunion and a train to Portland.  We are looking into some passenger ferry options to Victoria and some sunset sail cruises as well  and there's just lots of walking in the  woods that is  easy to access.  It is  very cool having the ability to do all that without the driving  particularly in that it was a lot of driving to get up here.

Here's what the condo looks like  and the daytime and sunset views.

We watch the sunset most evenings which is really a treat.  I've never lived over the water for any extended time and I am really loving hearing the seagulls in the morning.  Not loving the train so much nor the power generator plant but at least that one is off on the weekends.

In all,  I think I could live in a condo.  There's a nice little communal feeling, seeing more neighbors and little things like this.

Dante and Guthrie are enjoying the Sniff spot visits.  They are actually doing okay with condo life.  It is definitely more walking them in that we can't just open the backdoor into the yard.

 and

We've walked around  Larabee State Park

and the 100 acre forest

and  Padden Lake

and  Whatcom Falls.   Don't have a photo of that one.

We took a big day trip to San Juan Island this week which was one of the most fun filled day trips

We got to see both sunrise and sunset over the water  and  some alpaca in addition to awesome scenery.

Christina came over to visit nephew dogs.  Dante loves her.

In all, it is just very fun and relaxing and a nice reset from our Austin life.

I'm getting some reading done and a bit of writing and once the semester officially starts I am going to be more  disciplined about sitting down to write a few pages each day.

In other news,  I participated in an assessment this weekend.  It has been a while since  I've spent several hours a day on Zoom.  I'm not really supposed to say anything online about the assessment itself so I won't.   I will just say that  so much of my own relationship to practice has changed, more or less temporally   corresponding to the pandemic and the assessment changes that I left the experience this weekend tired, but  feeling super grateful for all the training I participated in in a rather long uninterrupted way for a long time.

As I'm not teaching in the fall,  I have also enjoyed vicariously watching others get ready to go back to school.

That's about all that is new.  It has been a truly glorious month and  I'm very much looking forward to two more!

Oh  we also walked around WWU campus.  Here's the philosophy building.

And the view.

Baylor is a lovely campus but it is hard to compete with that kind of  view!
