Day One
Here's our overall trajectory.
Well, I had written a nice blog with posts from various parts of the day, but it is somehow lost to the internet install updates I had to do, so I'll just summarize in photos.
Here we are about 45 minutes in on our way to Llano. We stopped to get a couple of gallons of water to have in case of incident.
The day started off with an incident at 6:45 Jeff was up and discovered that the lock on our new truck cover was broken so he had to drive upto the north land to get it fixed. Just what you want to add to a day in the car. But at least it happened before we left. We also had to replace a breaker the night before, again at least we found out before we left.
On the way to Llano we saw tons of new construction and a lot of dry river and lake beds with people's docs just down in the dry beds. It was pretty sad. This part of the drive is really pretty.
From Llano, the next landmark was Brady. Brady is the geographic epicenter of Texas and also figures prominently in the movie Zombieland. Btw, we recently saw the sequel on Netflix and it is quite enjoyable.
After that the drive starts to get rather dull scenery wise for a good long while.
Lots of windmills. We saw some pronghorn which was cool. I just read an article about them in Texas Monthly. They are most closely related to the giraffe and okapis.
Then, we made it to New Mexico.
And ended the day with mexican food and a margarita.
