Post Eclipse and Pre HOPS life update

   Gracie with Eclipse glasses.

First on the eclipse,  we had a lot of cloud cover at home, but still got some really nice peeks at the main action

Also, all the associated bird song and darkening and quietude happened. I am very glad we had the  stellar experience in 2017 to place what was happening in context.  It was nice not to travel, but on the other hand,  I think there was something immersive in the experience because we were away from home out in the middle of nowhere and had put so much effort into it.  This one, no effort.   So  we are sort of thinking about Iceland for the one in  2026.

We did indulge in Blanton's  which we found in a liquor store  on the way up in 2017. Liquor stores are open on Sunday in Wyoming.

Life has been good lately, despite pretty high pain levels associated with recovery from the stem cell treatment and an intense return of gluteal tendonopathy. Ouch.  I ended up having a bit of an Eclipse break in that  Tuesday was an Instructional Monday and I was originally planning on going to HOPS on Wednesday so had gotten Harrison to sub and Paul and Rich to sub the teaching class.  I realized that Wednesday would not be the best day to travel,  but  I have to say Thursday is not much better.  I am at the airport now waiting on my flight which has been delayed.  Luckily,  I knew before leaving home, but that did put us in the midst of  rush hour traffic to the airport.

We went to Galveston for Easter.  long drive  which may have set off the GT.  But it was really nice.  Marc and Kris had rented a big place and invited us down.

Here's me in an Easter Bonnet on the way out, courtesy of  Suzette.

Here's  sunset the first night.

And Madison reading  Nietzsche. (trip highlight).

Here's  Jeff on the boat.

In  other news,  I have started the CPAP therapy.   I am not super excited about it. I feel like Locutus. I am managing the 4 hours in  24 which is what is needed 70 percent of the time in the first three month for insurance to pay.  I am very glad  I have done pranayama. it feels a lot like forced pranayama that you can participate with mindfully with a very strange awkward prop.

Classes  have been great. It is now  student presentation time, so I'm pretty much done with active teaching.

Excited to give paper  tomorrow.  It is part of the book and  APS invited me to give a talk at  SPEP and I have a good idea to work up  that is part of two book chapters.   I feel primed for sabbatical.

It is proving hard to find a Bellingham location for the whole time, so we will see what ends up happening.
