Some Quasi-Resolutions

"This is a new year. A new beginning. And things will change."  Taylor Swift

Taylor  Swift is everywhere these days.  So why not a Taylor Swift quote for the new year. I sort of missed the Taylor Swift craze. I mean obviously I know who she is  in that I don't live under a rock, but I never really listened to her music.  But I had a student last semester, named Taylor, as it turns out  and she did her classical presentation on issues of intellectual property and creativity surrounding her buying and rerecording her songs.  And so we sort of had a Taylor Swift class commentary going all semester. Definite male/ female divide on this one. But the presentation was excellent and it is clear she means A LOT to  A LOT of young females, so I started to become intrigued.  Then, I read a fascinating article about her in the NYTimes a couple days ago about herm at the very least,  strong allyship with the queer community and I again found myself intrigued.   So  listening to Taylor Swift music makes it in as my fifth resolution for the year.

Resolution number four is to reinstitute the prop putting away process of  someone working on  straps, someone on bricks, a couple people on blankets, and then everyone does their own mat maintenance.  I learned this from Laurie and it does make the prop putting away go more smoothly. The prop area at the Castle is rather small.

Resolution three is also yoga related.  Start bringing LOY to class again and teach people how to read the text.

Resolution two is also yoga related.   Work on regaining shoulder strength and flexibility.  I also am adding in some weight work to this resolution.

Resolution one  is  hydration related: moisturize daily  and get all my waters in,

These are rather low hanging fruit resolution wise,  but I don't have a lot of psychic energy to put toward anything huge.  There's a lot going on emotionally with Dad's  and planning our trip  there this summer  etc basically getting our life organized enough to leave it for a few months.

One aspect of the reorg was cleaning out the hall closet, which now has space to put more things into.  I also located Dad's childhood manger which I have been aware of missing since he moved to Waco. I kept thinking it would show up.  Well, on  Epiphany it  did. So I set it out.  Oddly, there are four wise men.  Only two cows, two shepherds and three donkeys remaining.  Mary, Joseph, and Baby Jesus are intact.  Baby Jesus is huge in his manger and also decidedly white and blonde.  Interesting relic of history.   We also had a plastic one at some point and I remember integrating the sets. I think I let the plastic one go at some point a few moves back.  I did really like playing with the manger  when I was a kid.

Here is one of my favorite photos of Milo  as  Manger Manager.  He and Jeff were on their way upto Colorado for the Christmas we spent with Mom and Dad  before she died in Feb 20218.  I'm glad we got to spend that time there.

It snowed on Christmas Day that year.  It was a really fun day.

I also took, at Jon's urging,  some of Suzette's clothes and costume jewelry from Houston and have been integrating it into my own wardrobe. Here's the most recent wearing when Jeff and I went out for a beer and early dinner yesterday.. The necklace goes great with my current favorite pair of  classes.

So tomorrow, is  finishing the receipts for the year, doing the normal Monday yoga things and PT.

Oh and at some point  I need to write a couple syllabi.  But I've still got a week and a couple days.

Happy New Year everyone!
